Shocker : Award winning pharmacist allegedly commits suicide in Lagos

A married church leader and award winning pharmacist, Paul Olafare pictured above, allegedly committed suicide yesterday April 12th at his home in Lagos. He was found dead by his wife. According to multiple sources, Paul, a father of two, had been under a lot of pressure following a huge unpaid loan he collected from some people to set up his own pharmacy. His dream of setting up his own pharmacy failed leading to huge financial indebtedness. This allegedly led to chronic depression.

Paul was awarded the Lagos State Pharmacist of the Year 2013 and was reported to have been an active member of his church where he mentored the youth group.

According to a friend close to the situation, Paul had allegedly hinted to his wife that he would take his life if things didn't change for him. He also recently attempted to jump into the lagoon but was stopped by his wife.

His wife said she found him writhing in pain yesterday morning as she was preparing for church and found that he'd drank poison, which he later died.

Though he'd been allegedly battling with depression for a while, his family didn't believe he'd committed suicide and lodged a murder charge against the man's wife who is now being questioned by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.

He was a graduate of Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos.

Residents of lagos did not allow the election fever grip them from having a nice Easter, as Lagos state govt hosted a 4days events that started from Friday to Monday and several fun loving programs happened at the beach...

A check by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Beach in Victoria Island, Lagos, showed some armed policemen preventing picnickers from moving closer to the sea, to avoid disaster.

An anonymous official of the Eti-Osa Local Government told NAN that the restriction order became necessary to avoid drowning, associated with such occasions at the arena in the past.

Meanwhile, some of the people who came to transact business at the Beach said that patronage was very high, in spite of the economic hardship.
Adamu Ibrahim, a roasted meat better known as `suya’ vendor, said that he recorded a boom.

“There is economic hardship, but people are trooping in to have fun, we are making a lot of sales,” he said.

On the contrary, food vendors complained of low patronage, as fun seekers thronged the Beach with food packs.

Madam Nkiru Chukwuma, a food vendor, said that “ although people trooped to the Beach in large numbers, only a few of them stopped to eat.

“Some of the fun seekers stopped over at Shoprite to get what they would eat at the Beach,’’ she said.
